Harrachov - Krkonose - Giant mountains

The most famous and frequently visited community in Western Krkonose is Harrachov whose origin can be traced back to the 16th century when differing craft communities (miners, glass makers and foresters) merged together to create a town. In the 18th century a glass works was built in Harrachov that still operates today making fine examples of Bohemian glass. Visitors can see for themselves how the glass is produced at the factory or at the glass museum. In summer, Harrachov and its surroundings provide a wide range of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and other sports. Sports facilities in Harrachov include tennis courts, mini-golf, volley ball courts, squash courts, swimming pools and fitness centres. In winter, thanks to its location and altitude, Harrachov becomes fairy tale like in its beauty as the region is covered by a thick white coat of snow. Ski enthusiasts have the opportunity to try the many kilometres of cross-country ski trails and the many down hill ski runs of varying difficulty. Harrachov is one of the few winter resorts in the world where you can admire ski jumping as it has a ski jumping area with a giant ski jump.
